The 2 Monkeys / Sandals "Augustus"

To commemorate Jelado's 18th anniversary, The 2 Monkeys "Augustus" is an exceptionally special sandal, produced in very limited quantities.

First, let's talk about the leather. Both the upper and the footbed are made entirely of horsebutt leather. The upper features shrink horsebutt leather from Shinki Hikaku Co., Ltd., which has a wild appearance, while the footbed uses smooth-grained horsebutt leather from Maryam S.r.l. in Italy. This is a groundbreaking sandal that allows you to enjoy two different types of horsebutt leather. Furthermore, by combining two manufacturing methods, the waist has been boldly narrowed. (Please refer to the image of the sole.) The forefoot is made using the stitchdown method, while the waist to heel is made using the McKay method. Due to the extremely complex manufacturing process, this method is unprecedented for sandals. The footbed is shaped to conform to the sole of the foot, creating a sandal that fully supports the foot. The combination of this footbed shape and the H-shaped upper provides excellent breathability. You'll be able to wear them coolly even in the hot summer.

The upper is available in two colors: brown and camel. The brown, finished with oil for a moist texture, looks great on bare feet. The camel is finished with white wax, and the texture of the leather stands out, offering a uniquely individual look.

The 2 Monkeys "Augustus" is an exceptionally special sandal. Due to the very limited production of the wild shrink horsebutt leather from Shinki Hikaku Co., Ltd. used for the upper, the sandals will also be produced in very limited quantities (15 pairs of each color).

Sizes are S (25cm) / M (26cm) / L (27cm) / XL (28cm). The fit for each size depends not only on foot length but also on foot thickness. For details on how the size of each part of your foot fits with the sandal size, please refer to the images provided.

About the Leather

The horsebutt leather used for the upper of The 2 Monkeys "Augustus" is a rare and special leather, produced in very limited quantities annually. It uses only the part of the horse's buttocks where the cordovan layer usually forms. From a base leather tanned with mimosa tannins over time, we select those with underdeveloped cordovan layers that are easy to shrink. Large shrinking creates natural grain, but unlike embossed leather, the grain patterns vary widely. Areas with fine grain, areas with large grain, and areas with many rose scars all contribute to a rich expression. While each pair will have its own unique personality, leading to significant individual differences, each one possesses a daring and attractive appearance unlike any other leather.
