The 2 Monkeys / Sandal "AUGUSTUS"

The 2 Monkeys "AUGUSTUS" is an exceptionally special sandal, produced in limited quantities to commemorate Jelado's 18th anniversary.

First of all, both the leather upper and the footbed are made entirely of horsebutt. The upper uses Shrink Horsebutt from Shinki Hikaku Co., Ltd., which has a wild appearance, while the footbed uses smooth-grained Italian Horsebutt from Maryam S.R.L. This is a unique sandal that allows you to enjoy two types of horsebutt. (Please see "About the Leather" at the bottom for more information on Shinki Hikaku Co., Ltd.'s Shrink Horsebutt.)

Additionally, by combining two manufacturing methods, the waist has been boldly narrowed. (Please see the image of the sole.) The forefoot area is made with a stitch-down construction, while the waist to heel is made with a McKay construction. Since the manufacturing process is extremely complex, this method, unprecedented for sandals, allows the footbed to be shaped to the contours of the sole of the foot, creating a sandal that optimally supports the foot. The combination of this footbed shape and the H-shaped upper also provides excellent breathability. You should be able to wear them coolly in the hot summer.

The upper is available in two colors: brown and camel. The brown, finished with oil and having a moist texture, looks great on bare feet. The camel is finished with white wax, allowing the unevenness of the leather's surface to stand out, offering a uniquely distinctive look.

The 2 Monkeys "AUGUSTUS" is an exceptionally special sandal. Due to the very limited production of the wild Shrink Horsebutt from Shinki Hikaku Co., Ltd. used for the upper, the sandals are also produced in very small limited quantities (15 pairs of each color).

Sizes are S (25cm) / M (26cm) / L (27cm) / XL (28cm). The fit for each size depends not only on foot length but also on foot thickness. We have provided explanations of how the sizes of different parts of the foot fit with the sandal sizes in the images, so please refer to them.

About the Leather

The horsebutt used for the upper of The 2 Monkeys "AUGUSTUS" is a rare and special leather, with only a limited quantity produced each year. It uses only the part of the horse's hip where the cordovan layer is usually found. It is carefully selected from tanned leather, using mimosa tannins over a long period, choosing parts where the cordovan layer is underdeveloped and easy to shrink. Large shrinking creates a natural grain, but unlike embossing, the appearance of the grain varies greatly. Areas with fine grains, areas with large grains, and areas with many rose scars all offer rich expressions. Since each pair will have its own individuality, there will be what is called significant individual differences, but each will have a bold and attractive appearance unlike any other leather. We hope you will look forward to enjoying the unique expression that will reveal itself as your sandals are completed.
