Coureur des bois, men running through the forest
In the 17th and 18th centuries, when the vast lands of the interior of North America were French territory, some men crossed the Atlantic Ocean from France and traveled to the interior of America with Native Americans. They traded European goods for Native American furs, especially beaver pelts, and hunted together with the Native Americans, learning about their lifestyle and culture, wearing moccasins and paddling canoes, while living in the forests and wilderness.
Their journey was harsh and they were constantly at risk of death. They could die from illness, injury, or the freezing cold of winter, or be attacked by hostile Indian tribes. But they left their homes and traveled thousands of kilometers through the unexplored interior of North America. They fled the stifling feeling brought about by the class society of their native France, and sought freedom and adventure. In French, they were called Coureur des bois, or "those who gallop through the woods."
The 2 Monkeys' Autumn/Winter 2022 clothing line features designs inspired by their adventurous lifestyle.
These pants can be worn as a set with the “Courrier des Bois” Voyager Jacket, designed based on the clothes worn by French people who traveled to the uncivilized interior of North America (French Louisiana) in the 18th century to trade fur with Native Americans.
These pants have period features such as a deep rise, a wide waistband with a V-shaped inset on the back, a back cinch, and sanpender buttons, but they also have a tapered fit from the thighs to the hem, making them a perfect fit for today's casual style. The belt loops are small so as not to interfere with the atmosphere created by these details. (Please use a thin belt.)
The material is the same French pique as the jacket. The olive khaki uses a particularly thick pique material, while the navy stripe uses a slightly thicker, more flexible pique material.
