Coureur des bois, Men of the Forest
In the 17th and 18th centuries, when vast tracts of inland North America were French territory, there were men who crossed the Atlantic from France and traveled through the American interior with the Native Americans. They lived in forests and wilderness, learning the Native American way of life and culture, such as wearing moccasins and paddling canoes, while engaging in trade, exchanging European goods for Native American furs, especially beaver pelts, and hunting together.
Their journeys were arduous, constantly fraught with the danger of death. They could die from illness, injury, or the extreme cold of winter, or be attacked by hostile Native American tribes. Nevertheless, they traveled thousands of kilometers through the uncharted interior of North America, far from their homeland. Escaping the sense of stagnation brought about by the class society of their home country, France, and seeking freedom and adventure, they were called "Coureur des bois" (runners of the forest) in French.
The 2 Monkeys' Autumn/Winter 2022 apparel line offers items designed with inspiration from these adventurers.

These pants can be set up with the "Coureur des bois" Voyager Jacket, and are designed to evoke the clothing worn by Frenchmen who traveled through the undeveloped interior of North America (French Louisiana) in the 18th century for fur trading with Native Americans.
With historical features such as a deep rise, a thick waistband with a V-shaped insert at the back, a back cinch, and suspender buttons, these pants also taper from a relaxed thigh down to the hem, making them suitable for today's casual styles. To avoid interfering with the atmosphere created by these details, the belt loops are made smaller. (Please use a thin belt.)
The material is French pique, the same as the jacket. For olive khaki, we used a particularly thick pique fabric, and for navy stripe, a slightly thicker, flexible pique fabric.
