The motif of this season's new boots, "Erastus," was discovered in the Victorian era (1837-1901) in England, when the Industrial Revolution had reached maturity and mass production of everyday items, including clothing, had begun. The Civil War (1861-1865) occurred in the United States in the middle of this period. It was the only and last civil war since American independence, caused by conflict between the northern United States, which needed to develop industrialization to compete with Britain, and the southern Confederate States, which wanted to maintain slavery in the operation of large plantations.
The Union Army Cavalry Jacket is a lightweight jacket made of cotton pique based on the jacket worn by the Union Army cavalry during this war. Although this jacket was originally made of wool and was a military uniform, at the time mass production was not fully established, and it seems that there were many variations, as some were individually tailored and specifications differed for each state and district unit. Using a style commonly seen in the uniforms of Union cavalry at the time, such as a slightly tight width, stand-up collar, classic back pattern, and sleeve decoration, this jacket is made of unlined cotton pique and can be worn casually over a T-shirt or work shirt.
