The 2 Monkeys Sans-Culotte Pants [TM82342]

In the 18th century, upper-class men wore knee-length breeches, tightly fitted to the leg, with stockings (high socks) that conformed to the calf and ankle line. These breeches were called "culottes" in French.
In contrast, "commoners" of the time, such as artisans, small shopkeepers, and wage laborers, wore trousers that extended to the ankle, similar to modern pants. These were called "sans-culottes" in French, meaning "without culottes."

The French Revolution of 1789 was driven by these sans-culottes, i.e., "commoners." Following the success of the revolution, men's dominant lower-body attire shifted from breeches and stockings to trousers, which were closer to what we wear today.

Sans-culotte pants are inspired by the style of French commoners of that era and are made from chambray fabric (a linen blend), named after the town of Cambrai in France.
