The 2 Monkeys' new boots, RANDONNÉE, are a type of boot that first appeared in the United States in the early 20th century.
The design is based on boots known as "outing boots" or "scout boots."
This upper design, made with each side made from a single piece of leather sewn together at the toe and heel, and with a leather part attached in the center that runs from the shoelace hole to the cap, has been used on baseball and football cleats since around 1880.

This is probably because there is no leather stitching on the sides and the laces can be threaded all the way down to the toes, allowing the shoes to fit snugly to the foot.

Around 1910, this design was combined with a leather or thin rubber sole, and an oblique wooden last that approximates the shape of the toes, such as the Munson last, was used to develop sporty leather shoes (boots) with an outdoor image.

For the next 20 years, many American shoe manufacturers produced these boots.
The 2 Monkeys' RANDONNÉE is a boot made from approximately 3mm thick leather using an original wooden mold with a modified toe part of the Munson last, based on the design of the time.

The leather is extremely thick, but since the shoes are made from a single piece of leather without lining, they fit well to the feet.

This "Tatsuno Hand Waxed Leather" is made by hill-dyeing tanned leather with added oil, and then impregnating the grain surface with heated, melted wax using a large hand iron.

This leather is extremely labor-intensive, taking 20 to 30 minutes by hand to soak each piece of leather in wax.

It has a moist feel and the transparency that only full aniline (dyed only with dyes) leather can provide. The shades of color deepen as you wear it, and the brown core that fades and stands out.
It changes over time in a tasteful way.

Because we use tightly woven double shoulder leather (from both the left and right shoulders of a cow), tiger patterns may appear, but we believe you will enjoy this as the natural look that leather originally has.

We offer two colors: "gunmetal," a dark gray close to black that was often used for boots in America in the early 20th century, and a deep "brown" (see separate page).
