The 2 Monkeys' new model, Phantom, is a boot based on early 20th-century boxing shoes. This design, featuring large panels (vamps) covering both sides, began to be used in the late 19th century for indoor sports shoes such as boxing, wrestling, and basketball. By the mid-20th century, it was incorporated into work boots (commonly known as monkey boots) and continues to be widely used today as a sneaker design. The 2 Monkeys Phantom uses an oblique last, extends the vamp to the toe, and adopts a design commonly seen from the 1910s to the 1930s. Both the outer and inner leather of the upper are horsehide. The outer leather is horsehide permeated with animal oil and softened through kneading, while the lining uses lightweight, breathable off-white horsehide. A thin, flat sole is attached using the McKay process.

The oblique (foot-shaped) last, large side panels (vamps) extending to the toe, and 12 pairs of large eyelets with round laces. These upper designs are not what are commonly called monkey boots; rather, they reproduce the athletic shoes of an earlier era that served as their design source.

The leather is a moist, supple horsehide, similar to what was used in athletic shoes of the past. It is fully infused with animal oils and finished by kneading, making it soft and exceptionally comfortable to wear. Natural grain, creases, blood vessels, and scratches may appear, but these are all part of the unique texture of horsehide. The lining is off-white unfinished (unprocessed grain) horsehide. This lining material was often used for athletic shoes due to its lightness and breathability. The toe, which has a soft leather toe cap, will flatten with wear. The dark brown leather base is dyed black on the surface. You can enjoy the aging process, which reveals a natural tone of brown core.
