The 2 Monkeys Leather Waistcoat [TM83434]

In the 18th century, the northeastern and inland parts of North America were French territory. French people traveled through these undeveloped lands to trade furs and hunt beavers with the indigenous people. There is no historical evidence to prove that they wore leather jackets. However, given their deep interaction with Native Americans, who at that time already had a custom of wearing leather outerwear, it is possible that the French adapted the styles of French clothing from around 1750 to create and wear leather jackets. Based on this hypothesis, we designed this sleeved waistcoat (jacket) from that era. It incorporates numerous European details from that period, such as pre-curved (bent) sleeves, a distinctive armhole curve, unique back seams for cinching, and hem gussets, creating a truly unique leather jacket. The camel version is made from shrunk horsehide with a rugged texture. It retains irregular and natural grain, as well as natural marks. The dark brown version is made from smooth horsehide that retains its natural texture. Finished with black dye, it offers an enjoyable aging process where the deep dark brown gradually reveals black undertones. Both are vegetable-tanned leathers.
