We have recreated Gurkha trousers, which have unique details such as a high-waisted design with an extended wide waistband fastened by buckles on both sides, and a silhouette that tapers gently from a relaxed thigh, based on a vintage item and using LAST RESORT chino fabric. The name "Gurkha" comes from the "Gurkha soldiers" of Nepal, who were incorporated into the British army after the Anglo-Nepalese War in 1815. Khaki cotton drill (cotton twill fabric) was introduced into the uniform of Gurkha soldiers, who served as elite troops of the British colonial army, at the end of the 19th century. The uniform trousers of Gurkha soldiers during this period had a straight silhouette with a button front and suspenders, and it is said that these made their way to America and became chino pants. The design of a wide waistband extension fastened on both sides was introduced to the Gurkha army as shorts during World War II, but full-length pants appear to have been made as privately procured items in military sewing factories in India and Hong Kong. Gurkha trousers are those that spread for civilian use.
