This jacket originates from a textile that has been produced in Chimayo, New Mexico for 400 years, combining traditional Spanish techniques with Native American culture.
The thick wool rug is still spun on a hand loom by a long-established workshop, and each accessory, not found in VINTAGE rugs, is made from domestically produced deerskin, resulting in an authentic yet innovative design that is characteristic of JELADO.
It originated from the traditional weaving techniques of Spanish immigrants who settled in the village of Chimayo, New Mexico, in the late 17th century. Initially, striped patterns of Spanish origin were the norm, but later the style incorporated the geometric patterns of the local Pueblo and Navajo peoples, establishing its own unique style.
In the early 20th century, demand for these blankets as souvenirs for tourists increased, and vests and jackets made from sewn blanket fabrics appeared.
The MOKI rug pattern is one of the oldest designs in Navajo textiles, originating from the southwestern United States. Its history is deeply rooted in cultural exchange with the Spanish and Pueblo peoples. Some of the yarn is hand-dyed by Irvin using natural dyes.
Rio Grande weaving has been practiced in Chimayo, New Mexico for 400 years, dating back to the Spanish colonization period. Centinela Traditional Arts is the authentic successor to this tradition.
The workshop is run by Irving, a Living National Treasure, and his wife, Lisa Trujillo, a master dyer. Preserving a lineage that dates back to the 17th century and spanning eight generations, Lisa has conducted extensive research into natural dyes, reviving ancient colors that were nearly lost. They weave the history of the land, stitch by stitch, on a treadle loom. Their signature Chimayo vest embodies the tranquility of the sacred land and the pride of their artisans.
TK GARMENT SUPPLY is a brand that reconstructs vintage workwear and military gear, projecting the functional beauty of the past into the present.
