LAKEWOOD's custom model "GASCONS" is an extremely rare piece that recreates car club jackets of the era. A distinctive feature is that it is based on vintage pieces with chain embroidery. For this production, we took these valuable vintage pieces and commissioned Handler Co., known for their sukajan embroidery, to reproduce the embroidery using the same techniques as in the past. The sewing machine used was a SINGER 114K103, a hand-cranked machine from the 1950s assembled in England. The embroidery was done stitch by stitch, by hand, just as it would have been back then. Wool felt is used as the base, and acrylic yarn is used to create chain embroidery on top of it, faithfully reproducing the three-dimensional feel and uneven texture characteristic of vintage items. "Gascons" refers to people from the Gascogne region in southwestern France, and historically, it has also been used to mean "boastful" or "braggarts." It's uncertain whether it was actually made by people with French roots or if the name was merely based on an image of the time, but even including that background, it's a very unique and narrative-rich embroidery design. The classic car club jacket form combined with meaningful and individualistic embroidery creates a unique presence. It has a vibe that mass production could never achieve, and an unevenness that is unique to handmade items. This custom jacket is for those who truly appreciate and understand vintage, and it will resonate with those in the know.
