The shape of a shoe is determined by the wooden last. At KOTOKA, we use two types of wooden lasts for both men's and women's shoes. The "oblique type" has a wider area around the toes and more room in the instep, and the "round type" has a moderately rounded toe and a sleek shape.
These shoes are made on a slightly wider "oblique" last. There is no set width, but you can think of it as being about the same width as a regular EE shoe. -
Size Selection Guide
Shoe sizes vary depending on the compatibility between the shape of your foot and the wooden shoe tree, the manufacturer, and the structure of the shoe. Sneakers are often made smaller than leather shoes, so the fit is different from that of leather shoes. Please refer to the following as a guide when selecting the size of this KOTOKA shoe.
[For people with wide feet and high arches]
A size 1.0cm to 1.5cm smaller than the sneakers you are currently wearing
The same size as your current shoes or about 0.5cm smaller
[For those with narrow or thin legs]
A size 1.0cm to 1.5cm smaller than the sneakers you are currently wearing
The size is about 0.5 to 1.0 cm smaller than the leather shoes you are wearing.-
These shoes are made from cowhide leather that has been tanned using traditional methods with 100% vegetable tannins by Tochigi Leather, a world-renowned Japanese tanner (leather manufacturer), and then soaked in plenty of oil and kneaded to make it soft. The shoes are soft and comfortable to wear from the first time you put them on, and the more you wear them, the deeper their character will become. In the case of light-colored leather, the color will deepen over time.
This leather is characterized by its natural texture, which retains the natural texture of cowhide, but also has unevenness (grain) that occurs during the kneading process. There are shoes that use artificially embossed grained leather, but shoes that use leather with such natural and irregular grain are rare. The original wrinkles and small scratches of the cowhide are not erased, and different parts of the leather have different natural and irregular grain, making this leather with a variety of expressions, which makes each shoe unique.
