We made these classic lace-up shoes from a single piece of leather that runs from the toe to the heel. The natural grain Tochigi leather is rich in oil and soft. Because we deliberately omitted a lining, the shoes conform to your feet from the first wear, and you can enjoy the feeling of the single piece of leather embracing your feet. The shoe last is an oblique type, with ample width around the toes. You can wear them comfortably.

  • The shoe last determines the shape of the shoe. At KOTOKA, we use two types of lasts for men and women respectively. One is the "oblique type," which has a wide toe area and ample room for the instep, and the other is the "round type," which has a moderately rounded toe and a smart silhouette.
    These shoes are made with the slightly wider "oblique type" last. We do not set a specific width, but please consider them to be equivalent to an EE width in regular shoes.

  • Guide to choosing your size

    Shoe sizes vary depending on the shape of your foot, its compatibility with the last, the manufacturer, and the shoe's construction. Also, sneakers are often made smaller than leather shoes, so their sizing is different from leather shoes. Please refer to the following as a guide for choosing the size of these KOTOKA shoes.
    【For those with wide or high-arched feet】
    　1.0cm to 1.5cm smaller than your sneakers
    　The same size as your leather shoes, or about 0.5cm smaller
    【For those with narrow or thin feet】
    　1.0cm to 1.5cm smaller than your sneakers
    　0.5cm to 1.0cm smaller than your leather shoes

    • These shoes use cowhide that has been thoroughly oiled and kneaded for softness. It is made from "genuine nude leather" tanned using traditional methods with 100% vegetable tannins by "Tochigi Leather," a Japanese tannery (leather manufacturer) renowned worldwide. It will soften and conform to your feet from the first wear, and deepen in character with each wear. For lighter colored leather, the shade will deepen over time.
      This leather is characterized by its natural grain, retaining the original skin texture of the cowhide, and featuring irregularities (shibo) created during the kneading process. While there are shoes that use shibo leather artificially created by embossing, it is rare to find shoes that use leather with such natural and irregular shibo. It is a leather that showcases a variety of expressions, without erasing wrinkles and small scratches that the cow originally had, and with natural and irregular shibo that differs depending on the part of the leather, making each pair of shoes unique.
