The gentle curve of the instep resembles the Narayama hills that lie on the border between Nara and Kyoto prefectures, hence the name "Narayama Sandals."

The leather is vegetable tanned, dyed, and then hand-waxed multiple times to create "Tatsuno Hand Wax Leather." It is finished in Tatsuno, Hyogo Prefecture.
