The 1950s-style open-collar shirt boasts consistent popularity in the American casual market. Our WESTCOAST SHIRTS have been continually produced by changing fabrics and pocket shapes, and this time, we have reproduced print designs from vintage pieces we've collected over many years, creating them in original colors. For the material, rayon twill is woven at a factory in Senshu, Osaka, and then moved to a factory in Shiga Prefecture for pre-bleaching. It is produced with a 30/- warp x 30/- weft and a thread count of 120×74. This fabric is piece-dyed at a factory in Kyoto, then moved to a printing factory where it is finished with discharge printing. The printing method is called "jizome ganryo bassen" (base-dyed pigment discharge), where after piece-dyeing, the base color of the pattern area is removed while pigment colors are applied to the pattern area. Since the fabric is piece-dyed, the color permeates to the裏地 (lining), giving it a luxurious feel. Factories capable of pigment discharge printing on 145cm-wide rayon fabric are few in Japan, making this a highly rare and valuable fabric.
