The new WESTCOAST SHIRTS collection is released using Asagi Sashiko check fabric. Asagi-iro (浅葱色) is a traditional Japanese color name meaning "light blue." This color refers to a pale blue or sky blue hue and is frequently used in natural landscapes and traditional Japanese attire.
This fabric, made using a sashiko-style dobby loom, mimics the traditional Japanese sashiko weaving technique. Sashiko is a method of creating patterns by crossing threads, characterized by its beautiful designs. The use of a dobby loom allows for the weaving of complex patterns and designs.
The "sashiko-style dobby loom" applies dobby loom technology to reproduce the beautiful patterns and texture of traditional sashiko weaving. Using this loom, indigo threads dyed in asagi were used to weave a sashiko-style check pattern into the fabric.
WESTCOAST items are based on 1950s open-collar shirts, and this new collection inherits that lineage. To complement the fabric, the chest pocket is a single, flapless pocket, designed to harmonize with the patterned material. This item incorporates traditional Japanese elements, allowing you to experience a sense of Japanese aesthetic.
