WEST COAST SHIRTS got their name from the "California Made" tags found on 50s shirts.
These shirts are characterized by open collars, box silhouettes, blind-stitched collars, and flap pockets, which are common in 50s styles.
The fabric used this time was meticulously crafted through every process, from skein dyeing to weaving, within the Hamamatsu production region.
The warp ground threads use 20/1 dark indigo, while the sashiko parts use 20/2 asagi (light indigo) threads.
The weft threads are woven with 20/1 dark indigo. (Only SA-022 double weave uses 10/1 dark indigo for the weft.)
The dark indigo is dyed by soaking in vats 8-10 times, and the asagi 4-6 times.
Skein threads are repeatedly soaked in indigo vats to increase the color concentration.
Since all dyeing is done by hand, there will be subtle differences in color shade and uniformity each time. However, when finished into fabric, this creates an exquisite texture that cannot be achieved with rope dyeing or other methods.
Similar to the Amegasuri Sashiko produced last year, this Indigo Sashiko series uses unique fabrics that can only be made in Japan, expressing a one-of-a-kind garment with a distinct atmosphere.
The long-point collar and pocket flaps are blind-stitched, giving them a more vintage feel.
While retaining the 50s atmosphere, the silhouette is streamlined, and the arm circumference is slim for a sharp impression.
By making the arms narrower, the shirt avoids the inherent bulkiness of a box silhouette, resulting in a more casual, fashionable, and stylish shirt.
