JELADO Rebel Jacket Horsehide Semi-Aniline Finish Black [SG71428]

We have newly created a leather jacket to bring out a more vintage feel, focusing on the material. The vintage jacket used as the base was a 2-Star rider's jacket made by Wind Word, a brand of Montgomery Ward. The original pattern was too unflattering for modern wear, so we created a new pattern to suit contemporary styles. This jacket has been a staple at JELADO for many years. The newly developed material uses approximately 1.6mm thick horsehide, which has been combination-tanned (chrome and tannin). After chrome tanning, the solvents are washed away and the leather is re-tanned with tannin to bring out the best qualities of tannin, creating a moderate sense of substantialness in the leather and enhancing its character with wear. The base was dyed light brown, and then black was sprayed on by an old-established finishing factory in Tokyo using a "hill dyeing" method. This is what is known as "tea-core" leather. This time, to bring out a stronger black color, we applied a semi-aniline finish by mixing pigment and dye in equal parts. The dye, which penetrates the base, and the pigment, which forms a film on top, match perfectly, creating a beautiful aging process with wear. It offers the softness of leather that 100% pigment cannot, and because a thin film is applied, the base color quickly appears with wear. This time, to create a simpler rider's jacket, we eliminated the epaulets and used black cupra for the lining instead of quilting, making it a leather jacket suitable even for spring. Without the quilting, the jacket has less bulk, resulting in a more stylish finish.
