In expanding our proprietary LAST RESORT line, we have transitioned away from our previous color-coded branding - such as the Blue Tag and Brown Tag lines - to organize our collections into distinct "WORK Tag" and "COMBAT MILLS" divisions. Launching the debut of this newly structured WORK Tag lineup, we have engineered a custom chambray fabric entirely from scratch.
At the core of JELADO's manufacturing philosophy lies the strict process of disassembling, analyzing, and reconstructing historic garments. For this development, we completely disassembled a vintage chambray shirt to thoroughly investigate its original weave texture, hand-feel, and unique yarn character. We began at the foundational level by selecting American cotton from the deep south — the exact same Texas cotton blend utilized in our legendary 41 Khaki, herringbone, and light-ounce denim lines. Using this cotton as our bedrock, we spun numerous trial batches of slub yarn, continuously adjusting the irregularity and balance of the texture until we achieved our ideal yarn profile.
The warp threads are dyed using authentic rope dyeing. By calculating the exact depth of the indigo shade alongside the color retention at the core of the yarn, we ensured the fabric will gradually shed its dye through hard wear to yield beautiful vintage aging. Furthermore, we have accurately replicated the characteristic yellow selvedge ID thread seen on original mid-century specimens.
Utilizing this proprietary textile, we have faithfully reproduced a classic 1930s work shirt. Every detail, from the specific placement of the woven labels to the garment construction, has been executed according to original manufacturing specs to capture the true atmosphere of the era. The shirt is equipped with premium metal buttons that will show realistic wear as the painted finish naturally wears off over time.
To honor the historical character of the vintage garment, we carefully matched the narrow stitch widths on the patch pockets and the edge-stitching on the collar. Going a step further with the triple-needle structural seams, we went so far as to copy the unique manufacturing quirks of our specific archival piece such as deliberately replicating a detail where a greenish-gray thread was used for just one of the bobbin stitch lines while all other threads remain dark navy.
Engineered with an ultra-fine stitch pitch, this shirt will develop beautiful, tight puckering after washing, allowing the slub texture and indigo fading to grow with every wear. It is a chambray shirt that truly becomes more complete the more it is worn. From the spinning of the yarn to the reproduction of vintage sewing quirks, every single metric is executed to absolute vintage standards, delivering a masterpiece fully worthy of the WORK Tag name.
