The 10th Mountain Division USARMY
In 1939, Finnish soldiers repelled Soviet forces on skis, prompting the U.S. Army to recognize the need for mountain troops. In 1941, the 87th Mountain Infantry Battalion, later the 10th Mountain Division, underwent rigorous training in Colorado. In 1945, skiers surprised the Germans with a successful nighttime attack during the Battle of Monte Belvedere in Italy. The division was founded on July 1943, 7, at an Army base established in the Colorado Rocky Mountains known as "Camp Hale." This reversible parka features an OD outer fabric for forests and grasslands and a lining for camouflage in snowy mountains. Among the many variations available, this "M-13 Ski Reversible Parka" features a pullover front with a zipper and no fur collar. While faithful to the original design, the hood has been enlarged and the length has been lengthened to fulfill its functionality as a rain parka. The fabric used is "CASE, SLEEPING, BAG M-42 WATER REPELLENT," which, as the name suggests, is the outer cover of the sleeping bag. Although it's labeled "M-1945," it was adopted in 1945 and continued to be manufactured and used for many years. As the "WATER REPELLENT" label suggests, this plain-weave cotton fabric is water-repellent. The reason the fabric colors vary in this product is that each individual bag has a slightly different fabric, and even parts within each bag are made of different colored fabrics. Taking this into consideration, the design combines each part in a different color. While the fabric was already water-repellent at the time, since it's from 1945, the treatment itself has deteriorated over time, so we've re-applied the water-repellent treatment to the product.
