The fabric is thick, yet soft and comfortable to wear.

 ~COLIMBO description~
Based on the design of the summer flight jacket worn by naval aircraft pilots deployed in the Pacific Ocean until the early 1950s, when the era of propeller aircraft was coming to an end, this jacket is made from a tightly twisted chino cloth that is more durable than the original.
The definition of "summer" in military jackets had a stronger nuance of being for activities in warm military areas rather than for summertime, and from around the 1960s the term changed to "Tropical."
The U.S. Navy's summer flight jacket initially started with the M-400 jacket, which had a nearly identical design to other climate jackets in the M-422 series (M-444 Intermediate, M-445 Winter Light, M-421 Winter Heavy).
It was a luxurious piece made in accordance with the traditional format of men's clothing, with traditional action pleats on the back, and similarly intricate and detailed patterns on the sleeves and small parts on the sides.
After the war, rapid developments in aviation technology led to changes in the equipment worn by aviators, the most notable of which was the plastic-shelled flight helmet. Flight suit collars were made small and round to minimize the risk of catching around the neck when wearing a jet helmet, and summer jackets worn over them were also improved to have round collars.
