This car coat was made by sampling a four-flap pocket horsehide car coat produced in the 1930s under the HERCULES brand, developed by Sears, Roebuck and Company.
It uses two original horsehides: EVONY and GAUCHO.
The horsehide finished in black with a brown core, named
EVONY, is made from 1.2 to 1.3 mm thick European horse front, pit-tanned with vegetable tannins, resulting in a leather with fine fiber density and a rich texture.
While the finish is applied with lacquer, by omitting the "anchor" process which enhances robustness, we achieved a leather that lacks the stiffness of pigment and easily reveals its brown core.
For the mocha brown, we used
GAUCHO.
Approximately 1.2-1.3mm thick, full vegetable-tanned European horsehide (horse body leather) is used.This unique leather has a distinctive touch, where the surface of the horse front, which has a fine fiber density due to pit tanning, is lightly sanded and rubbed.Lightly rubbing the surface creates a supple texture and allows you to enjoy the changing pull-up effect of the leather.Because it deeply absorbs water and oil, this leather constantly changes its appearance.When friction is applied to the surface, the leather changes as if it has been "burned." Both black and mocha brown are finished with dye, allowing for a richer appreciation of the leather's character.A characteristic of full vegetable tannin tanning is that with use, the oils within the leather come to the surface, increasing its luster, and the leather expands and gains volume.For both, black sewing thread is used.
Using black sewing thread makes the mocha brown appear more refined.
We enhanced the workwear atmosphere by adding a discharge-printed stripe to the back of the flaps, belt, and cuffs.
The liner uses a dobby weave wool tweed fabric.
This fabric is warm and exudes a luxurious feel.
The buckle used is a reproduction of an original carved iron buckle from that era.
