~COLIMBO Description~
The "M-44" military trousers, affectionately known as "monkey pants," are best known as the combat gear worn by the U.S. Marine Corps from the end of World War II through the Korean War, but they are also part of a group of transplanted garments that are said to have originally been produced and issued as military workwear for use in combat, and then repurposed for use in combat.
The original and streamlined appearance is eye-catching, with large cargo pockets that wrap around from the front to the sides without hand warmers, and a distinctive bat pocket on the back.
In particular, the bat pocket is said to be designed to store a folded poncho.
At the time, the herringbone military fabrics supplied to the US military had different weaving patterns for the Army and Navy, and toward the end of the war, a large amount of the original fabrics for each army and navy were canceled and left with nowhere to go, and it was the Marines that ultimately received them. Thus, there is a theory that there are two types of herringbone patterns on their equipment.
Also, as recently as 1945, major manufacturers continued to produce outdoor clothing made from these fabrics that were dyed in different colors and repurposed for civilian use for two to three years, after which the fabric was reverted back to normal duck fabric. This shows how the mass consumption of materials during the war created a variety of stories.
For this product, we have modified each part while respecting the taste of the time, recreating the natural tapered silhouette from the thigh to the hem and the moderate rise size using tasty, long-lasting HBT (herringbone twill) cloth.
The original metal buttons have a brass-plated stud base that is then wrapped in a steel cover and painted; the more you wear them, the more they will develop a unique character that blends in with the texture of the fabric.
