It is named after the pattern that resembles

the exposed bones of a filleted herring.

Baker pants were worn in battle,

and also during indoor work.

It is also said that the name "baker pants" originated from

the fact that bakers wore them.

Since they are made of herringbone twill fabric,

they are thick and durable.
