~Vintage Jeans Glossary~
Good evening. This is Uemura from WEST.
Today's blog will be about "Vintage Jeans."
I'd like to talk to everyone about it.
The products we sell
are made based on vintage items.
We thoroughly reproduce even the quirks
of the original vintage piece.
We are so particular about our craftsmanship
that you might not even notice these details unless they are pointed out.
When you look at each individual piece,
you might actually find yourself saying, "Wow, I've never seen anything like this before!"
This is a LEVI'S "213" model from the 1930s.
Many people know the LEVI'S "506XX" style,
but perhaps not the "213" model number?
It's what's commonly known as a 1st type denim jacket.
*The image is of an item owned by a JELADO staff member.
Some of you may have noticed from the image above that
it doesn't have the familiar "red tab" of LEVI'S.
It's not that it came off, but that it was never there.
The "red tab" was added in 1936, so
this tells us it's a model from before then.
And the patch part... normally, it would have a
"leather patch," but this one has a "linen patch."
This means that this jacket uses
"NO.2 denim."
*501XX and 506XX use "NO.1 denim,"
and "NO.2" and "NO.3" denim are the cheaper versions.
And the "doughnut buttons" engraved with the LEVI'S company name
also serve as a clue that NO.2 denim was used.
This is a buckle called a "cinch back" (or "buckle back").
It's used to adjust the size.
Since it's a pin-type, it's also sometimes called a "pin cinch."
Actually, if you scroll down on the JELADO online page,
you'll find a "Vintage Jeans Glossary,"
and if you click on it,
there's a whole list of terms
used for "Vintage Denim."
There are many different words, but based on JELADO's interpretation,
we've compiled them here as a "dictionary."
"Knowing the terms = Knowing the details"
"Knowing the details = Knowing the history."
I believe this to be true.
Furthermore, by knowing the history, you can envision the historical context,
and I hope this becomes an opportunity to "learn more deeply about denim,"
and that it leads to "the charm of denim."
Everyone, please take a look at the Vintage Jeans Glossary,
and I hope you become interested in JELADO's craftsmanship...
and JELADO's "LAST RESORT DENIM."
The terms mentioned in today's blog about
"LEVI'S 213" are also in the Vintage Jeans Glossary,
so I hope as many customers as possible will check it out.
Please check it out.

~USMC M44 Monkey Pants~
【Pre-order item, arriving early March】Monkey Trousers【CT11344】
USMC M44 Monkey Pants are pants issued to the Marine Corps,
and are popular items in the vintage industry, known by the nickname "Monkey Pants."
The origin of that name is this...
Large, horizontal cargo pockets with flaps.
These large pockets were adopted for carrying a "poncho,"
and the reason for the flaps was to prevent the contents from falling out.
These pants are called "Monkey Pants" because these pockets resemble a monkey's buttocks.
The production period of the M44 was actually very short, only "1 year and 3 months,"
from July 1944 to around October 1945.
Also, because they were issued to the "elite few" of the U.S. Marine Corps,
the overall production volume was small, so they are traded at quite high prices in the vintage market.
The period during which the U.S. Marine Corps actually wore them was...
・Battle of Iwo Jima (Feb. 19 – Mar. 26, 1945)
・Around the Battle of Okinawa (Mar. 26 – Sep. 7, 1945).
Also, after World War II,
・Korean War (Jun. 25, 1950 – Jul. 27, 1953)
It seems they were worn extensively during these periods.
Jelado's Monkey Pants use herringbone material.
Furthermore, they are dyed with vat dye.
And the buttons are doughnut buttons,
which also give it a vintage feel.
By wearing them consistently,
you can enjoy their aging process.
Native pattern half-length coats or
leather jackets... and even
coveralls go very well with it,
and I also recommend pairing it with a chambray shirt.
Please make your reservations at the store or online.
Thank you.

~Regarding bring-your-own hemming service~
At both JELADO stores, we used to offer hemming services for "denim from other brands" if brought to the store, but since we've seen an increase in hemming requests for items purchased in-store or online, we currently do not offer "hemming for other brands brought in by customers." We apologize for any inconvenience.
・Hemming services for "JELADO products purchased from our dealers" that you own will be charged.
*We will continue to offer hemming services for items purchased directly from JELADO, as before.
