〜USMC M44 Monkey Pants〜

I will be writing an in-depth blog post about

the USMC M44 Monkey Pants,

which were the basis for this model.

First, what does USMC stand for?

It's an abbreviation for United States Marine Corps.

It refers to the US Marines.

It is one of the six branches of the US military;

the others are as follows:

US ARMY

US AIR FORCE

US NAVY

US COAST GUARD

In 2019,

the US SPACE FORCE

was added, 70 years

after the Air Force was established in 1947.

The origin of the name 'M44 Monkey Pants',

which were issued to the Marine Corps, is as follows:

The large, horizontally-oriented cargo pockets with flaps.

These large pockets were designed

to hold a 'poncho', and the flaps were added

to prevent items from falling out.

The popular name 'Monkey Pants'

came about because these pockets resemble a monkey's backside.

The production period for the M44

was actually very short, lasting only 'one year and three months',

from July 1944 to around October 1945.

Moreover, due to being issued to the 'elite few'

US Marines, the overall production volume was low,

resulting in quite high prices in the vintage market.

The period during which the US Marines

actually wore them was...

・Battle of Iwo Jima (Feb 19 - Mar 26, 1945)

・Around the Battle of Okinawa (Mar 26 - Sep 7, 1945).

Also, after World War II, during the

・Korean War (Jun 25, 1950 - Jul 27, 1953)

it seems they were widely worn.

are made from herringbone fabric.

Furthermore, they are dyed with vat dyes.

And the buttons are donut buttons,

which further enhances the vintage feel.
