【The 2 Monkeys Sportif: Aging Gracefully!】Introducing the Sportif Boots!

Now, today I would like to introduce the aging of my beloved The 2 Monkeys Sportif Black Calf【TM72924】.

 

The French vintage-inspired moccasin-type boots “Sportif” (moccasins are shoes structured to wrap the foot using a single piece of leather. They originated from slip-on shoes worn by Native Americans.

Later, shoes with a U-shaped upper sewn together were created, and this method of sewing the upper is called "moccasin stitching," hence the name "moccasin.")

The Sportif last, equivalent to an E width, is designed to fit a standard foot shape with a slightly loose fit, but even those with narrower feet can achieve a firm fit by tightening the laces more. This is thanks to the softness of the leather. Those with high insteps and wide feet can choose a slightly larger size than their foot length without significantly compromising the fit. The sole width is narrowed at the arch, allowing the foot to rest on the soft leather.

The 2 Monkeys boots Sportif are designed with the image of boots worn for hunting and outdoor activities in France around the 1920s to 1930s.

 

Sportif boots are leather shoes, but their lightness, like sneakers, is their most distinctive feature.

The construction of the toe is made with the Goodyear welt method, and the waist to the heel is made with the McKay method, making them quite time-consuming to produce, but they are boots that you can enjoy for their craftsmanship.

From the inside, they look dressy and elegant, while from the outside, they look like work boots.

The top and bottom of the heel have an S-shaped curve, giving them a neat and smart appearance.

The leather used is French calf (calfskin from calves less than 6 months old, with high-quality French calf being particularly fine-grained and soft), which perfectly matches the shape of these boots. As you wear them, the leather conforms to your feet, making them incredibly comfortable.

The black color is hill-dyed (where dye is applied to undyed fabric with a spray or brush.
Little color penetrates the leather, and the cross-section appears undyed). As it ages, it will change to a tea core, developing a unique character.

I wear them regularly, and a faint tea core has started to appear. The wrinkles have also developed nicely.

Maintenance is also easy and hassle-free.

After wearing them, brush them with a horsehair brush, and apply oil every 3 to 4 months, then brush them again.

Since the stitching thread is brown, I recommend using a colorless cream when applying colored cream, as the color may transfer to the thread.

Sportif boots, which incorporate French European taste into American casual fashion, are highly recommended.

Black and white combination shoes are said to have originated in England in the 1860s as cricket shoes. For low-cut shoes, they were widely used in the 1920s and 30s as a style favored by dandies, becoming an iconic shoe style of the era. The Sportif 2 "Chamonix" features a black and white two-tone design, rarely seen in boots but well-suited to moccasin-type toes. The black leather is Anoney calf, and the white embossed leather is domestic steerhide.

The leather is slightly stiffer than that of the standard Sportif (Black Calf), but it is a thick work boot leather.

The coloring is very impactful, making these boots versatile for various outfits.

I've been wearing them since May.

Five months have passed.

The wax on the laces has worn off, and they've become quite soft.
