The 2 Monkeys Sans-Culotte Pants【TM82342】

Each item has a story,

and the stories depicted by Mr. Suzuki Riya are fascinating.

That's The 2Monkeys.

The setting for the "Sans-Culotte Pants"

I'm introducing today is the 18th century.

The bottoms worn by upper-class French men were

knee-length breeches tailored to fit the leg,

and high socks that matched the line from the calf to the ankle were common.

In France, breeches were called "culottes."

"Common people" such as artisans, small shopkeepers, and wage laborers wore what are now called trousers

(unlike the culottes of the upper class, these had full-length legs down to the ankle).

Those who did not wear culottes were called "Sans-Culotte."

From July 4, 1789, to August 22, 1795,

the common people sought "liberty, equality, and property" in a civil movement that became known as the French Revolution.

※"What was the French Revolution?"

At that time, France was an absolute monarchy with the king holding absolute power.

It was the center of European politics and culture.

However, due to restrictions on speech

and large wealth disparities based on social status,

the common people were dissatisfied with the political system.

On July 4, 1789...

the common people finally rose up, seeking "liberty, equality, and property,"

and the French Revolution began.

A long civil movement was carried out,

and it was a revolution won by the common people as the driving force.

Due to this revolution, the style of breeches + stockings worn by the upper class also

changed to the modern sans-culottes.

The 2 Monkeys' Sans-Culotte Pants are

made with chambray fabric (cotton-linen)

derived from the town of Cambrai in France,

inspired by the style of common people at the time.

Since it uses cotton, it can be washed,

and because it's a linen material, it's breathable

and comfortable to wear.
