What is an Artisan Shirt?

Until around 1800, shirts were made as men's underwear.

The 2 Monkeys' Artisan Shirt incorporates details from that era but has been modified for modern wear by adjusting the length and making it a full-front opening.

Here are some features of the artisan shirt.

Shirts from the 1800s used a single continuous piece of fabric for the front and back body to minimize sewing. To ensure mobility, gussets were added at the shoulders.

To avoid wasting fabric, the body and sleeves were cut straight. To add dimension to the straight-cut fabric, generous gathers were added at the neck and cuffs, and the sleeves were cinched at the wrists with cuffs.

While designed for a very relaxed fit, this shirt lavishly uses 100% linen.
