This year, even before December, the weather is still warm, and it looks like we'll have a long season to comfortably wear leather jackets.

So, this time, we'd like to introduce JELADO's iconic leather rider's jacket, the "Rebel Jacket," along with its impressive aging!

The image above shows the jacket in its new condition, but after about a year of wear...

It shows dynamic aging like this!

The material used is 1.6mm thick horsehide, newly developed to achieve a vintage feel.

After dyeing the base a light brown, black is sprayed on with "oka-zome" (a traditional dyeing technique) at a long-established finishing factory in Tokyo, resulting in what is known as "tea core" leather.

This time, to bring out the black more strongly, we used a semi-aniline finish, mixing pigment and dye in equal parts.

All that effort is worthwhile, as the powerful contrast between black and brown appears in the accordion-like wrinkles etched into the arms. The way the wrinkles form differently on the left and right is another enjoyable aspect.

For tanning, we adopted "combination tanning," which combines chrome and tannin. Chrome tanning produces strong and supple leather, while tannin tanning produces leather with a characteristic called plasticity, which means it retains its shape. Thanks to this shape memory, wrinkles are etched into the leather, and the surface becomes crushed and shiny. We aimed to get the best of both chrome and tannin tanning.

Also, as you wear it, the grain becomes more prominent like this.

Features of horsehide, such as "tora-me" (tiger stripes), also gradually emerge. Tora-me are deep wrinkles that appear on the neck and shoulder area of horses. In Italy, it is said that the stronger the tora-me, the more beautiful the leather.

The areas around the pockets, which are frequently touched, also show wonderful aging.

This model is based on a 1950s rider's jacket made by Wind Word, a store brand of Montgomery Ward.

Although it has a basic style, the three studs on the back provide a nice accent.
