M-43 Field Jacket Feature: Flagship Store

Thank you for always visiting our store.

The other day, the M-43 Field Jacket made from Last Resort Blue Tag Denim arrived.

With this, we now have a complete range of M-43 Field Jacket variations using three different fabrics.

So today, we'd like to present a special feature on the M-43!

JELADO CM43 HBT Field Jacket【CT03443】

This is the navy version of the classic herringbone twill. Since all the M-43s we're introducing today share the same details, I'd like to use this one as an example to explain "what the M-43 is."

What is the M-43?

The M-43 was an item newly developed and adopted in 1941, at the request of President Roosevelt, to refresh the image of the military among young people and increase enlistments.

Prior to that, uniforms used blue denim fabric, but it seems that not a few soldiers complained that it was stiff and uncomfortable to wear. That's why this herringbone twill (HBT) fabric was newly adopted.

Herringbone twill is a twill fabric named because its pattern resembles the bones of a herring fish when laid open.

The M-43 was initially adopted as a uniform for training and general duties.

However, due to the fact that the wool uniforms previously adopted as combat uniforms were too heavy for use in tropical regions, the lightweight cotton herringbone M-43 gradually began to be used as a combat uniform as well.

This is olive, which is closer to the original.

This JELADO herringbone fabric was dyed with sulphur dyes, just like the original, and we strove to faithfully reproduce the texture as well. Sulphur dyes have low colorfastness, so they will gradually fade with wear, making this a highly anticipated piece for its aging process.

The buttons are black-painted iron laurel buttons, which will also show changes as the black paint gradually peels off.

And the new version, using the Last Resort Blue Tag Denim.

Blue tag denim is woven with three different thicknesses of yarn alternately, giving it a unique texture that allows for random vertical fading. Since sulfur-dyed gray yarn is used for the weft, it has a slightly subdued color.

We also use gray cotton thread for the sewing, which is the same color as the weft, contributing to the subdued atmosphere. However, when the color fades, the sewing thread will stand out, becoming an accent.

Well, this time we've brought you information about the M-43 Field Jacket.

Currently, we have a wide range of sizes available for all versions at our Ebisu store. Please consider them for autumn!

~USMC M44 Monkey Pants~

【Pre-order item, expected to arrive early March】Monkey Trousers【CT11344】

Speaking of USMC M44 Monkey Pants,

They were pants issued to the Marine Corps,

And are popular items in the vintage industry

with the nickname "Monkey Pants."

The origin of that name is as follows…

Large horizontal cargo pockets with flaps.

These large pockets were adopted to hold ponchos,

and the flaps were added to prevent the contents from falling out.

These pockets are said to resemble a monkey's buttocks,

hence the name "Monkey Pants."

The M44 was produced for a very short period, only 1 year and 3 months,

from July 1944 to around October 1945.

Also, because it was issued to the US Marine Corps,

a small elite force, the overall production volume was low, which is why it commands a high price in the vintage market.

The period when the US Marine Corps actually wore them was...

・Battle of Iwo Jima (February 19 - March 26, 1945)

・Around the Battle of Okinawa (March 26 - September 7, 1945)

Also, after World War II,

・Korean War (June 25, 1950 - July 27, 1953)

It seems they were worn a lot during these times.

JELADO's Monkey Pants use herringbone fabric.

Furthermore, they are dyed with sulphur dyes.

And the buttons are doughnut buttons,

which also creates a vintage feel.

By wearing them thoroughly,

you can enjoy the aging process.

A Native American patterned half-length coat, or

A leather jacket... or even,

It also pairs very well with coveralls,

I also recommend pairing it with a chambray shirt.

Please make a reservation at the store or online.

Thank you.
