Thank you for always visiting our store.
The season where leather can take center stage has finally arrived.
So today, we will be introducing The 2 Monkeys' standard Leather Waistcoat.

The 2 Monkeys Round-neck Leather Waistcoat【TM03430】

In addition to black chrome-tanned, through-dyed steerhide (cowhide) with a soft, fabric-like feel,

we also offer olive suede. This is grain-side suede made from tannin-tanned horsehide.
This style takes The 2 Monkeys' standard V-neck leather jacket and gives it a round neck.

In the 18th century, beaver hunting was thriving among settlers in parts of North America that were still French territory. Furthermore, these Frenchmen did not hesitate to travel into uncharted lands for fur trade with the Native Americans.

A classic V-neck leather waistcoat. This camel version is made from rough, shrunken horsehide.

The dark brown is also made of tannin-tanned horsehide, retaining its natural grain.
Returning to the topic, this Leather Waistcoat was created with the assumption of what outerwear those settlers would have worn when traveling through the rugged, unexplored lands of that era. What form would an 18th-century French-style waistcoat (jacket) have taken if it had been made using the techniques of the Native Americans, who were already wearing leather outerwear at the time? This Leather Waistcoat is the result of such a hypothesis.

Today, a waistcoat refers to a buttoned, sleeveless vest worn as part of a three-piece suit, like this:

However, in France until the mid-18th century, long-sleeved garments like the one above were called waistcoats (or "vestes" in French). This is a silk waistcoat (veste) made in France in 1747.
It features pre-bent sleeves, typical of the era.

Furthermore, it incorporates details from 18th-century French styles, such asthe unique back seam for cinching the waist,

and gussets at the hem.

The biggest difference from our standard waistcoat is probably the use of very soft tanned cowhide and horse suede.
This is a very comfortable jacket to wear. Please consider it.
