On October 7, 2022...

When the LAST RESORT Black Tag was released nationwide,

it sold out quickly at both our direct stores and dealers.

 

For those who are wondering what the Black Tag is,

I will explain.

 

I can explain it concisely, but I want you to understand even a little about this fabric,

so I'll talk about the fabric while briefly discussing the historical background.

 

In 1890, the LEVI'S iconic

501XX was born.

 

In 1906, the Great San Francisco Earthquake occurred.

 

Around 1915, the denim supply shifted from Amoskeag to Cone Mills.

 

In 1922, the 501XX, which used to be suspended by suspenders, evolved into urban wear with the addition of belt loops.

 

As time passed, culture changed,

and the 501XX transitioned from workwear to urban wear.

 

When World War II began in 1939,

material controls were imposed in 1941,

and LEVI'S changed its details from previous specifications.

 

Then, in 1945, the war ended,

and material controls were lifted.

 

Until just before the lifting,

LEVI'S factories had leftover fabric with a strong blackish tint

that was used for the *"War Model,"

and they used up this fabric before transitioning to new denim fabric.

 

What is the War Model?

It refers to the S501XX/S506XX

that underwent significant detail changes due to material controls in 1941.

 

Because it was a model with a short production period,

it is a model that commands a significantly higher price among VINTAGE LEVI'S.

 

The characteristics of this model include:

 

(S506XX)

The front buttons were changed to laurel wreath buttons, and the number was reduced from 5 to 4.

The chest pocket flap was removed.

 

(S501XX)

The button fly was changed to laurel wreath buttons.

The arcuate was painted, and the coin pocket rivet was omitted.

Regarding the pocket lining,

there are detail differences such as the adoption of herringbone or flannel.

 

To return to the topic,

this 'Black Tag' series is a model that focuses on the transitional denim fabric

used after World War II ended and material controls were lifted,

up until the point when new denim fabric was used to revert to the pre-war original form.

 

Although it is a 15 oz denim fabric,

I think you will feel its soft impression when you actually wear it.

 

Also, because the fabric has a strong unevenness,

a clear vertical fading will be seen as it ages.

 

(It will soon be 1 year since I started wearing it)
