The important detail of this sweatshirt is the sleeves.

First, common sleeve types include:

① Set-in sleeves

② Raglan sleeves

What are set-in sleeves?

They are sleeves attached "straight" from the shoulder to the armpit.

What are raglan sleeves?

They are sleeves attached "straight" from the neck to the armpit.

※However, some 1930s raglan sleeves were like this:

While generally straight, there are also curved raglan sleeves.

The switching is done from a remarkably high position.

I haven't seen this type of sleeve on a sweatshirt before, but I've confirmed its existence on this L/S Tee and on football shirts.

The Champs Sweat Shirt was very popular in JELADO's 2022AW Collection.

This is the 2023AW Collection.

Unlike regular sweatshirts, this one has a slightly different sleeve attachment.

It's called a freedom sleeve.

As mentioned above,

・Set-in sleeves

・Raglan sleeves

While attaching sleeves straight is easier and boosts productivity, from a functional standpoint, it restricts movement when raising the arm.

For this reason, from the late 1930s to the 1940s, some brands started attaching curved sleeves instead of straight ones, creating sweatshirts that allowed for a wider range of motion when raising the arm.

This detail disappeared in the 1950s due to low productivity, cost, and labor, but these sweatshirts were ideal for ball sports.

A prime example of such a sport is "tennis."

In fact, in vintage sweatshirts, the "freedom sleeve" is strongly associated with Wilson.

※Wilson is a sports brand founded in Chicago in 1913. Particularly, as they started manufacturing tennis equipment in 1916, I strongly associate them with tennis.

This sweatshirt is specialized for sports with actions such as "serves and smashes" in tennis, or "throwing" in other sports.

The Champs Sweat Shirt features freedom sleeves,

and the body is knitted on an old Azuma knitting machine to create a seamless tubular body (no side seams).

Fabric produced on an Azuma knitting machine is characterized by a vintage feel and lightness. These knitting machines from around the 1970s are now rare.

By knitting slowly, JELADO's Champs Sweat Shirt offers a soft and comfortable feel.

With open-width fabric, napping can be done in one process. However, for tubular fabric, the napping process involves flattening the tube and napping it four times around the entire circumference, which takes four times as long.

This fabric texture, created by spending four times the amount of time, will be appreciated by those who already own a Champs Sweat Shirt. It is soft and has a pleasant texture.
