(Glass green)
(Black)
I will introduce this item.
【Pre-order item・Expected to arrive in November-December】JELADO Grassbag【JP83814】
This time, I'm introducing a Cowichan sweater.
This is JELADO's first hand-knitted Cowichan sweater.
What does "Cowichan" in Cowichan sweater mean?
It originates from the traditional cold-weather clothing of the "Cowichan people," indigenous people who lived on "Vancouver Island" in Canada.
Sweaters and cardigans knitted from thick, oily wool are
water-repellent and excellent for keeping warm. Cowichan sweaters have a unique texture and weight,
and are characterized by hand-knitted designs featuring geometric patterns or animals such as the Thunderbird (grouse), which was the sacred bird of the Cowichan people, and reindeer.
This product is a collaboration item with GIM.
The "Glass bag" produced using GIM's manufacturing background is
based on 1960s Cowichan knits.
Speaking of 1960s Cowichan knits,
there were wolf, carp, thunderbird, totem pole,
reindeer, and also classic car, bowling, and snowflake patterns.
JELADO's "Glass bag" features a bison pattern,
which is rarely seen even in vintage items.
While reproducing the bison pattern, to highlight the roughness of vintage items
and the "atmosphere" that can only be expressed through hand-knitting,
half (4 out of 8 strands) of the 8-ply yarn uses randomly selected *recycled yarn
to create variations in color and thickness, giving it a vintage feel.
You can see the color variations from these two images,
which are created by using recycled yarn.
*About recycled yarn.
This yarn is made by collecting and reusing discarded wool from spinning mills.
It is a blended yarn of 97% recycled wool and 3% polyester, with a hand-knitted plain stitch base.
However, by mixing in garter stitch in some parts, we have expressed the desired atmosphere.
This is my personal opinion, but
for those who were avid readers of "BOON" in the late 1990s, when Ryoko Hirosue, Yuki Uchida, and Rie Tomosaka were on the cover,
there were features on Cowichan sweaters. So, for customers in their 40s and 50s who like vintage clothing and were interested in fashion,
wouldn't this item bring back a sense of nostalgia?
This Grass bag is currently expected to arrive in stores
around late October to early November. So,
if you are interested, please visit the store and try it on once it arrives.
