Today, I'd like to talk about this...
Today, I'll be discussing "What are Chino Pants?"
Some of you may have already watched the YouTube video that was just released,
but I'll be introducing what "41Khaki" in "Last Resort Chino" is.

I've written about this topic once before on the blog,
so some of you may already know about it,
but I still want to talk about it because some people perceive chino pants as "work pants."
① [Origin of the name "chino pants"]
Pants made from a fabric called chino cloth are called "chino pants."
② [What is chino cloth?]
*This is not the fabric for our 41Khaki.
It is a thick fabric tightly twill-woven using single yarns,
making it durable and resistant to washing.
③ [Why are chino pants often beige?]
It all started with the British Army uniforms in India, where the bottoms were white.
White pants stood out too much on the battlefield, so for camouflage, they were dyed using mulberries, coffee, and curry powder.
The color of these dyed pants is called "khaki."
*In Hindi, khaki means "earth color."
The word "beige" that you often use is actually "khaki."
④ [How chino pants came to America]
During the Afghan War from 1878-81, the advantage of dyeing uniforms khaki was recognized.
During the Boer War from 1899-1902, khaki uniforms were officially adopted.
This led to a mass production of khaki trousers in Manchester, England. The surplus was exported from India to China.
(I believe there was already export from India to China even before khaki was officially adopted for military uniforms.)
In 1898, after winning the war with Spain,
America governed the Philippines and purchased large quantities of chino pants from China
to serve as uniforms for troops stationed in the Philippines.
Thus, it is believed that chino pants traveled from England → India → China → Philippines → America.
⑤ [Birth of M41]
America, which didn't initially have muchこだわり for military uniforms,
began to seek functional uniforms as wars progressed.
In 1941, combat uniforms made from California cotton dyed khaki were created,
which became the "US ARMY 41 Khaki."
These functional 41Khaki pants are still popular items in the current vintage market,
and in recent years, I've noticed that good sizes have become quite scarce.
They are rare chino pants.
As you may have understood, chino pants are not work pants;
the correct term is military pants.
