Today's topic is about a fabric different from denim.

For almost two years, I had a project I wanted to do, and I've been working on it in parallel with the Last Resort black tag, but it wasn't progressing as I had hoped.

This is the Black Chambray Senpai (senior).

As those who have been loving vintage clothing for almost 30 years would know, wasn't black chambray an admired item for those who experienced the vintage boom of the 90s?

Over the past decade, with the workwear boom and increased recognition of pre-war clothing, many brands have developed black chambray shirts, but I've recently felt that the twisted yarn fabric used for shirts tends to look too similar.

After all, the fabric must be custom-made...

There's a hole here, lol.

Just like denim, after all.

By deconstructing it, we can understand the twist, thickness, and quality of the yarn, which are otherwise invisible.

The warp yarn is a melange yarn with a subdued speckled color due to varying yarn thicknesses.

The weft yarn is unbleached.

The definition of chambray is a plain weave with colored warp threads and unbleached weft threads.

This time, it's chambray with melange warp threads and unbleached weft threads.

Black chambray has warp threads of a charcoal melange yarn that is close to black, and unbleached weft threads.

And because it is sulfur-dyed, the used vintage black chambray that remains today has faded to an ash-gray color.

As you can see.

I really want to express this faded look...

Sulfur dyes do fade, of course, but their colorfastness is so high that they won't reach the color I envision in two or three years.

That's a good thing because of the high quality, but it doesn't allow me to express the vintage feel I'm looking for.

In that case, let's create a faded color from the start.

That's the idea behind this project.

Expressing the faded look with sulfur dye.

This allows for further fading to be enjoyed, creating a chambray with rich character.

 And the chambray I hoped to create has been made!

The speckled effect and unevenness of the slub yarn are perfect!

However, compared to the vintage, the color has a quite reddish tint.

In terms of reproducibility, it's different, but

However, this is really good in its own way!

It's a new color that came out of an accidental product, not a color you could get if you tried to produce it.

We've created something never before seen!

I'm not sure what to call the color.

Charcoal brown???

It's a difficult color to describe, whether it's reddish gray or brown, but it's a lovely color that you probably don't have in your wardrobe!

From this, we will make cool shirts with the best tailoring!
