Silent W (Wrangler)

My first time with Wrangler.
I thought about what to write, but
I figured I had to start with this!
So here it is…
For Levi's, it's the Arcuate Stitch.
For Lee, it's the Lazy S.
So what about Wrangler??
The back pockets of Wrangler jeans and
the front pockets of their denim shirts feature
a "W" stitch. This stitch is called the Silent W.
Similar to Levi's arcuate stitch,
the Silent W is also helpful for dating garments.
Wrangler was created in 1947
as a denim line by Blue Bell Company.
The earliest Wrangler jeans
had a stitch similar to the arcuate stitch on their back pockets,
but the Silent W was introduced in 1948.
If we look at the images above again...
Anyone who can tell the difference between these two Silent Ws is a connoisseur.
The top Silent W is seen from '48 to the '50s.
The bottom one is often seen in the '60s,
but I don't know the exact year.
Because the peaks of the "W" in the top Silent W are tall, collectors
call it "Oyama" (meaning "big mountain").
The bottom Silent W is smaller, so it's called "Koyama" (meaning "small mountain").
This time it was Wrangler, but stitches
on Levi's and Lee also serve as details for dating garments,
so please keep that in mind.
