~557XX successor model... and traces remain today~

 

The successor model to the 557XX is the

70505, commonly known as the 4th.

 

 

As I mentioned in the previous 557XX post,

the design is highly refined, and the base for trucker jackets

sold today, including those that came after the 557XX,

has not significantly changed. However,

you can distinguish between the 557XX and the 70505 at a glance.

 

 

 

 

The V-shape runs from the pocket to the hem,

and the 557XX has a sharper V-point.

The 70505 has a less sharp point,

so this change in detail is a key distinguishing feature.

I hope you can remember it now.

 

 

This time, I'd like to discuss these points, including JELADO's interpretation.

 

 

First, the 70505 was introduced in 1966.

During the transition period, there was a 557 70505 that had both 557 and 70505 markings.

Of course, there were also models with only the 70505 marking.

 

 

And here's one more thing...

 

If the stamp on the back of the front button is a single letter, it's from the transition period.

So, if the paper patch is missing and you can't distinguish it,

check the stamp on the back of the button.

If it's a single letter, it's from the transition period, so it's safe to assume it's a 557 70505.

 

Those with three-digit numbers are later 70505 models.

And among the three-digit numbers... 500s are probably the most common.

The 70805 has snap buttons.

Boys' sizes up to 8 used snap buttons, I believe.

I'm pretty sure a size 10 I saw at a vintage shop in Niigata didn't have snaps, so that seems correct.

 

 

Both our company's 70505...

and my personal 70805 have three-digit numbers stamped on the back of the buttons,

indicating they are post-transition models.

And since they have BIG E, they are from between the 70505's introduction in '66

and before '71, when the small e appeared.

 

 

Will they become "next vintage" and increase in price?

In fact, many vintage shops are already raising their prices,

so now is the recommended time to get one.
