Just like the 506XX (1st) and 507XX (2nd), the 557XX (3rd) that we're introducing today is currently skyrocketing in price.
The 557XX has a completely different silhouette compared to the 507XX, and it would not be an exaggeration to call it the perfected form of Levi's denim jackets.
This is because the subsequent 70505 and current trucker jackets are based on the 557XX.
Therefore, even those who are not particularly interested in vintage items probably recognize the shape of this 557XX.
The 557XX appeared in 1961 as a jacket made from pre-shrunk fabric.
*Pre-shrunk fabric, simply put, refers to denim fabric that has undergone shrinkage prevention processing. It has been used in jackets from the 557XX era to the present day.

The appeal of this 557XX is its stylish and highly designed nature. As I mentioned earlier, it is said to be the perfected form of Levi's denim jackets, but on the other hand, those who prefer Lee might say it's a jacket that imitates the 101J.

The early model of the 557XX has the words "Every Garment Guaranteed" written on the patch.
A patch with this inscription is commonly known as "gara-ari" (with guarantee).
This "gara-ari" patch was used until around 1962.
After that, it changed to "gara-nashi" (without guarantee), but there are actually two types of "gara-nashi" patches: those with and those without "Made In USA" written on them.

And around '63, the "XX" disappeared, and it became just "557."
Although the 557XX had a short production period, only five years from 1961 to 1966, its contribution as the foundation for current trucker jackets sold today is extremely significant.
And that concludes the story of the 557XX.
