〜Focus on the right back pocket〜

When it comes to the 1937 501XX,

it still has a cinch back,

but the suspender buttons are gone,

leaving only belt loops.

What's different from the 1922 501XX

is that the custom of wearing belts

hadn't yet become widespread, or perhaps

it was no longer an era where workwear and fashion were separate,

and the 501XX completely transitioned into fashion.

Another reason it can be said to have transitioned to fashion

is the "cut buckle."

Since the belt loop was attached

where the cinch back was, people who were concerned about it snagging

cut the cinch back to make it easier to pass a belt through.

This shows how the 501XX evolved from workwear to fashion.

In other words, due to the widespread use of belts,

the cinch back could no longer fulfill its role,

so it's a detail that would disappear in the next model.

And most importantly, pay attention

to the back pocket.

It has a red tab, doesn't it?

This red tab was devised so that you could tell it was a Levi's product at a glance.

I've written about the red tab in more detail before,

so please check it out here.

There's another change to the back pocket.

If you noticed it,

you must really love Levi's!

The back pocket of the 1922 501XX

The back pockets also had rivets.

They were exposed, just like the front pockets, for reinforcement,

so they often scratched wooden chairs when people sat down.

To address this, this '37 model

improved the problem by covering the rivets with fabric.

They adopted concealed rivets, which reinforced the pockets and prevented them from scratching things.

And then there's the arcuate stitching.

I think it's changed compared to previous models.

This arcuate stitching is a detail necessary for dating the jeans,

so please take a look at past 501XX blogs and compare them.

(I'll put the links at the very bottom.)

Oh, one more thing!!

Pay attention to the top button on the front!!

Yes, the V-stitch is a detail that starts appearing from this era.

So, I'd like to end my discussion of the 1937 501XX here.

The 501XX series isn't quite finished yet... it will continue, so please look forward to it.
