~The Secret Story of the Birth of 501XX~
As you all know,
Levi Strauss,
the founder of Levi's...

And Jacob Davis was a tailor.
Jacob Davis
tailored clothes for railroad workers.
He used cotton duck fabric that he bought from Levi Strauss & Co. at the time.
One day, a worker's wife asked him
to make durable work pants suitable for labor.
Jacob Davis attached rivets
to reinforce the seams and pockets.
This quickly spread among workers,
became popular, and he got busy.
Naturally, at this point,
supply couldn't keep up with demand,
so Jacob Davis
took action.
He went to
none other than Levi Strauss & Co.
Jacob Davis
pleaded with Levi Strauss in a letter about the potential value of rivets,
and they jointly applied for a patent
(Jacob Davis requested investment for the patent application fees).
Finally, on May 20, 1873,
they obtained the patent for rivets.
This means that this day is the birthday of jeans,
and Levi's still holds
various events every year in many places.

Then in 1890...
Jeans were given a lot number for the first time.
That was 501XX.
