~A little bit about VINTAGE today~
Today's topic is "Paper Patch".
Why did you start using leather patches?
Do you know if they have been replaced with paper patches?
Those who know must really love VINTAGE LEVI'S.
In terms of denim, up until 1954
Leather patch made from deerskin
However, since 1980, the leather patches have been replaced with paper patches.
The details have been changed.
The 501ZXX was released in 1954.
This model would later become the 502.
It was the first zipper-type 501 and attracted a lot of attention.
If we just look at the results, it would be called a failure.
Why is it said that way?
At that time, LEVI'S was "Shrink to Fit".
It fits your body by letting water through (it shrinks to fit).
I used a fabric that makes it possible to make a textured look.
If you squeeze too much water out of denim when you run it through water and dry it,
The fabric will become tightly woven and shrinkage will occur.
At that time in America, the spread of dryers
Denim shrinks a lot when you use a dryer after washing it.
The silhouette often changes.
In that case, the zipper rail often gets damaged.
The 501ZXX was the one that caused the most complaints at the time.
This model was later pre-shrunk.
The part number is 502.
This shrinkage not only damages the zipper rail but also
The shrinkage of leather patches was also a subject of complaints.
Paper patches that do not shrink or harden when washed
Changed some details.
Just one last thing...
We will introduce you to a jacket that will make you wonder, "Who knew something like that existed?"
LEVI'S S506XX Paper patch (probably)
If it is leather, it will be less visible than fabric when the patch shrinks...
The image above is a patch that came with the S501XX (not the one on the jacket shown here).
The paper-like patch clearly identifies the war model.
The letter S appears before the model number.
The back cinch of this jacket has a file, not a lily.
It can be determined to be a late war model.
It's just a guess, though.
Due to the flow of material control, leather patches
Is this a trial to switch to paper patches?
Or maybe the leather patch was made from deerskin,
Have there been any complaints from animal rights groups or other organisations?
Or is it something else?
I don't know the answer, but something like this exists.
It's interesting, isn't it?
No matter how much we dig, there are still many things we don't know.
This is the charm of VINTAGE, so please check it out.
And that's all for now.
