REVERSE WEAVE SWEAT
The price of REVERSE WEAVE has started to rise in the past few years...
College items like YALE, and military items like ARMY and NAVY,
have seen incredibly high price increases.
Even I, a fan of vintage sweatshirts,
feel that the price increase for these sweatshirts is abnormal.
This one is a sweatshirt with a rubber print that says
UNIVERSITY ARIZONA.
This is a Champion Reverse Weave, a classic American casual item.
The tag is an embroidered tag, dating it to the early 90s.
The difference between early and late models is whether they were made in the USA or Mexico, with those made in the USA being considered early models.
What is Champion Reverse Weave?
It's a manufacturing method patented by Sam Friedlander in 1934.
In response to complaints that sweatshirts would shrink in length after washing,
the cotton, which was originally woven vertically, was used horizontally to prevent the length from shrinking. However, this caused the width to shrink. So, by inserting side action ribs
into the side panels, the problem of width shrinkage was solved, thus creating the Reverse Weave.
