Model 66
～Levi's 501 66 Model～
I think many of you are fans of this one, right?
I'd like to focus on the 66 model, but before that...
For those who think the 66 model is from 1966...
That's incorrect!
It's easy to just give the answer,
but I'd prefer if you could learn a little something here.
First, 1971 was the year of the company's IPO,
and Levi's announced that the red tab's lettering would change from LEVI'S to Levi's.
BIG E ended and transitioned to small e.
Then, from around 1972 to around 1978...
The 501s sold during this period came to be called the 66 model.
But why is it called the 66 model? Let's dig into that.
First, I'll show you some images.
What I want you to look at here is...
Please look at the very bottom of the flasher.
You can see the text "©1966,"
and this is where many people mistakenly think it's from 1966.
The way to distinguish a 66 model is by the top button, specifically the stamping on the back of the button...
If it's "6," it's a 66 model.
Furthermore, there are early and late versions of the 66 model,
which can be distinguished by the coin pocket and back pocket, but...
The top one is the early 66 model, and the bottom one is the late 66 model.
If the stitching is single, it's an early 66 model.
If it's chain stitching, it's a late 66 model.
I believe this is the most common method of identification used by everyone,
so please take this opportunity to remember it.
When you look at your own pants or denim that's been sleeping in your closet,
