Today, I would like to introduce VAUDEVILLE [TM83933].

The season for wearing boots has arrived, hasn't it?

 

The 2 Monkeys Sportif Black Calf [TM72924] Price ¥121,000 (tax included)

 

 

Sportif is a French vintage-style moccasin boot. A moccasin is a shoe constructed from a single piece of leather that wraps around the foot. It is based on the slip-on shoes worn by Native Americans.

U-shaped uppers were later developed, and the method of sewing these uppers together is called "moccasin stitching," hence the name "moccasin."

The Sportif last, equivalent to a width E, is designed to fit standard feet with a slightly loose fit, but even those with narrow feet can achieve a firm fit by tightening the laces. This is thanks to the softness of the leather. Those with high insteps and wide feet will not significantly compromise the fit even if they choose a slightly larger size than their foot length. The sole width is narrowed at the arch, allowing the foot to rest on the soft leather.

The 2 Monkeys boot Sportif is a boot designed with the image of boots worn for hunting and outdoor activities in France around the 1920s to 1930s.

 

The construction is also quite time-consuming, with a Goodyear welt construction for the toe and a Blake construction for the waist and heel. However, it is a boot where you can enjoy the attention to detail.

From the inside, it looks like an elegant and beautiful boot, and from the outside, it looks like a work boot.

The heel curves in an S-shape both above and below, giving it a sleek and smart appearance.

The leather used is French calf (calf leather from calves less than 6 months old, with high-quality French calf specifically referred to as French calf, characterized by its fine grain and softness), which matches the shape of this boot. As you wear them, the leather will conform to your feet, making them truly comfortable boots.

The black is dyed "oka-zome" (a dyeing method where dye is sprayed or brushed onto undyed fabric, with very little dye penetrating the leather, making the cross-section appear undyed). As it ages, it will change to a brown core, developing a unique character.

I also wear them regularly, and a subtle brown core has started to appear. The wrinkles have also developed nicely.

Maintenance is also easy and hassle-free.

After wearing them, I recommend brushing them with a horsehair brush and applying oil every 3 to 4 months, followed by brushing.

Since the stitching is brown, I recommend using a colorless cream when caring for them to avoid transferring color to the threads.

The Sportif, a boot that blends American casual fashion with French European taste, is a highly recommended boot.

Vaudeville was a popular form of entertainment in America before the advent of cinema. Around 1880-1920, when vaudeville was at its peak, many vaudeville theaters thrived in major cities like New York. The content was diverse, including singing, dancing, comedy, magic, and more. Many early silent film stars, such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, and the Marx Brothers, came from vaudeville backgrounds. They traveled from theater to theater. The 2 Monkeys “VAUDEVILLE” is a boot created with the image of a vaudeville actor, who was also a traveling performer (it is not a reproduction of a specific vintage boot). We drew inspiration from American and French boots from around the 1910s.

It is an outside-laced cap-toe boot with a high toe, also called a bulldog toe, and a vamp sewn together from separate parts. We combined an original last with a slightly oblique toe, a small cap, a large vamp, a low shaft, and a small heel to achieve the appearance of boots from that era. We used two types of construction to create a strongly cinched waist, recreating the elegant silhouette of boots from that period. The toe has a unique lined shape. The leather is smooth horsehide (horse front) with a natural finish. Since the leather is not heavily "treated," wrinkles and scars may appear as you wear it, but these contribute to the full enjoyment of its horsehide character. Like the Sportif, it is a surprisingly light and comfortable boot.

 

These boots have a design that evokes the scenery of that era, don't they?

To me, they also look like boots a game character would wear.

They are available in two colors: black and oak brown.

The black color has arrived first.

They have a different look than the Sportif, and since they are made of horse front, the leather is quite soft, so I think they will become very comfortable boots once broken in.

The real thing is quite cool, so please come and see them in person.

The peak boot season has arrived.

I think this design would also look great on women, so please consider it for a Christmas gift.

Like the Sportif, these boots will also develop a nice patina with age.
