JELADO 44Leather Jacket (Horse hide Semi-aniline Finish)【JP94409】
This leather jacket was born from the idea of creating a leather version of the first-type denim jacket from 1944, during World War II, commonly known as the "War Model."
During the war, civilian companies in America were also subject to material controls, and to conserve iron used for buttons, denim jackets were reduced from five to four buttons.
Furthermore, the buttons, which originally bore brand engravings, were replaced with mass-produced laurel leaf buttons used by the military and others.
Because the "War Model" with these characteristics was only produced for a very short period from 1942 to 1946, after World War II, its rarity makes it a highly coveted piece in the vintage market.
JELADO's 44 Leather Jacket inherits the details of the "War Model" and aims to be a jacket that can be worn casually like denim and enjoyed as it ages.
To achieve the ideal aging process, we developed a new horsehide. It's a "tea core leather," where the base is dyed light brown, then black is applied with pigment dyeing at a long-established finishing factory in Tokyo. Just as indigo fades over time in denim, allowing you to enjoy its aging, the black topcoat peels away, revealing the brown undertone of the material.
The tanning process is also meticulous. The approximately 1.6mm thick horsehide is first chrome-tanned, then the solution is washed away and it's re-tanned with vegetable tannins. This combines the pliability of vegetable tanning, which allows wrinkles to be etched in, with the suppleness of chrome tanning.
Initially, the leather has a smooth texture, but with wear, it develops a pronounced grain like this.
The silhouette, which was originally a very short first-type denim jacket, has been slightly modified to be longer. This makes it a casual jacket that even those who find riders' jackets difficult to wear in town can easily throw on.
