JELADO Smoker Shirt Indigo Chambray【JP94112】
The material used is a specially ordered chambray fabric that reproduces the deadstock work shirt fabric of "BRAVEMAN" from the 1920s to 1930s owned by our company.
・What is chambray fabric?
Chambray fabric generally refers to a plain-weave fabric that uses colored yarn, such as indigo, for the warp and white yarn (or a different colored yarn than the warp) for the weft. It is characterized by its unique frosted texture.
While it is similar to denim fabric in that it uses indigo for the warp and white yarn for the weft, as seen in this smoker shirt, denim is a twill weave fabric, so the weaving method is different.
In plain weave fabrics, such as chambray, the warp and weft threads are interwoven alternately. Because there are many points where the threads intersect, the fabric is very durable and crisp.
Also, since the warp and weft threads are woven evenly, there is little difference between the front and back of the fabric.
On the other hand, twill weave fabrics like denim are woven by skipping several warp and weft threads before intersecting them. Since there are fewer intersecting points, the fabric is highly elastic.
Also, unlike plain weave, if different threads are used for the warp and weft, the color on the front and back of the fabric will differ. This is why the back of denim is white.
・About JELADO Smoker Shirt Indigo Chambray
The fabric of this smoker shirt uses indigo for the warp and slubby white yarn for the weft, allowing for enjoyable vertical fading and color variations with wear and washing.
The design is based on a "BIG YANK" gacha-pocket shirt from the 1930s.
As the name "gacha-pocket" suggests, it has pockets of different shapes on the left and right.
The smaller left pocket is a cigarette pocket, which is the origin of the name "smoker shirt." In the 1930s, cigarette packs were not covered in cellophane, so the pocket was designed like a pouch to prevent cigarettes from getting wet when laborers sweated.
Triple stitching is used in various parts of the sewing to ensure durability, characteristic of a work shirt.
It features a selvedge gusset specification, a detail found on vintage Big Yank shirts.
Hexagonal buttons, used in old work shirts, are adopted.
Also, cotton thread is used for sewing, so puckering will appear with repeated washing.
JELADO Smoker Shirt White【JP94113】
Smoker shirts are available in various variations as a standard item, and this version uses cotton broadcloth, which is typically used for dress shirts.
It offers a cleaner finish than indigo chambray.
JELADO Smoker Shirt 【JP03105】
This is the wool version, released for this autumn/winter season. Worn as an inner layer under a leather jacket or denim jacket, it provides excellent cold protection. It uses metal buttons.
Finally, there's this twisted yarn chambray version. Like the Last Resort fabric, it's a meticulously crafted fabric recreated from the yarn up by disassembling a vintage Big Yank shirt.
Since it's sulfur-dyed, you can enjoy its aging process a lot.
