This time, I'd like to dive deep into The Monkeys' new "Grand Sportif," which finally became available for pre-order the other day!

The Grand Sportif was created by extending the length of The 2 Monkeys' classic Sportif boots, with the aim of making them more classical.

In America until around the 1920s, low-cut shoes were called "oxfords," and shoes with a 6- to 8-inch shaft, now called boots, were called "shoes." The term "boots" at the time referred to shoes with a 10- to 16-inch shaft, meaning calf- to below-the-knee length.

At that time, "boots" of the Grand Sportif's length were widely worn for dangerous outdoor work and activities. The moc-toe, the Sportif's most distinctive feature, was also a standard shape for outdoor shoes of the era. Indeed, Sportif-like shoes were actually worn for sports activities. (Hunting was also one of the typical sports of the time.)

The opening features a belt, a detail seen on old hunting boots and the like.

If you wear jodhpur pants tucked into these boots, you'll feel like an American hunter from the late 19th to early 20th century.

The biggest difference from the regular Sportif is that the upper leather is Italian horsehide (horsefront). The brown Italian leather is dyed black in Japan, resulting in what is known as "tea core."

Because it's soft, foot-conforming horsehide, you can wear these 10-inch boots with a comfortable feel that you wouldn't expect from boots of that length. Since it's dyed with dye and then finished with pigment, you can enjoy a rich aging process, including a natural "tea core" appearance.

Like the classic Sportif, the waist is narrowed by combining Goodyear welt construction with McKay construction, which, along with the slightly higher pitched heel, creates elegant curves reminiscent of boots from a bygone era.

The Grand Sportif is a seasonal limited edition, and we don't know when the next production run will be. Please consider this opportunity.

〜USMC M44 Monkey Pants〜

Speaking of USMC M44 Monkey Pants,

these are pants issued to the Marine Corps,

and they are popular items in the vintage industry

under the nickname "Monkey Pants".

The origin of their name is...

Long, horizontal cargo pockets with flaps.

These large pockets were designed to hold a 'poncho,'

and the flaps were added to prevent items from falling out.

These pockets are said to resemble a monkey's hindquarters,

hence the name "Monkey Pants."

The M44 was produced for a very short period, only "one year and three months,"

from July 1944 to around October 1945.

Also, because it was issued to the "elite few" of the U.S. Marine Corps,

the overall production volume was low, so it fetches quite high prices

in the vintage market.

The period during which the U.S. Marine Corps actually wore them was...

・Battle of Iwo Jima (Feb 19 - Mar 26, 1945)

・Around the Battle of Okinawa (Mar 26 - Sep 7, 1945)

And after World War II,

・Korean War (Jun 25, 1950 - Jul 27, 1953)

They seem to have been widely worn during these periods.

The buttons are doughnut buttons,

which also creates a vintage feel.

You can enjoy the aging process by wearing them thoroughly.

They go well with native-patterned half-length coats

leather jackets, and even
