The comfortable season for wearing just a leather jacket is coming again.
This time, we'd like to introduce JELADO's iconic leather rider's jacket, the "Rebel Jacket," including examples of how it ages over time.
JELADO Rebel Jacket Horse Hide Semi Aniline Finish Black【SG71428】
While it looks pristine when new, with repeated rigorous wear, it will show dynamic aging like this!
The material used is 1.6mm-thick horsehide (horse leather), newly developed to achieve a vintage look.
The base leather is dyed light brown, then a black pigment is applied by hand at a long-established finishing factory in Tokyo, resulting in what is known as "tea-core" leather.
This time, to achieve a stronger black, a semi-aniline finish with a 50/50 mix of pigment and dye was used for coloring.
The effort is well worth it, as the accordion-like wrinkles etched into the arms display a powerful contrast between black and brown. The way the wrinkles form differently on each arm is another enjoyable aspect.
For tanning, we adopted "combination tanning," which combines chrome and vegetable tanning. Chrome tanning has the characteristic of producing strong and supple leather, while vegetable tanning produces leather with plasticity, a characteristic that allows it to retain its shape. Thanks to this shape memory, wrinkles are etched into the leather and the surface becomes crushed, resulting in a sheen. Our aim was to combine the best aspects of both chrome and vegetable tanning.
Also, as you wear it, the grain becomes more prominent like this.
Characteristics of horse leather, such as "tora-me" (tiger stripes), gradually emerge. Tora-me refers to the deep wrinkles that appear on the horse's neck and shoulders. In Italy, it is said that the stronger the tora-me, the more beautiful the leather.
The areas around the pockets, which are often touched by hand, also show excellent aging.
This model is based on a 1950s rider's jacket made by Wind Word, a store brand of Montgomery Ward.
While it has a basic style, the three studs on the back serve as a nice accent.

There is also a version that inherits details from the original Montgomery Ward rider's jacket, such as red quilting and epaulets.
Epaulets with two star-shaped studs, which is why it's commonly called the "Two-Star."
The lining is quilted with padding for autumn/winter specifications.
