Today, we'd like to introduce Colimbo's mouton jacket, perfect for these recent extremely cold days.

COLIMBO A.A.F Heavy Loader Mouton JKT Seal Brown【ZZ-0136】

This is a jacket commonly known as "B-3".

Lavishly made from mouton (sheepskin), it is said to be the "King of Flight Jackets" by some.

During World War II, fighter planes did not have "pressurization systems" to maintain cabin pressure and comfortable temperatures, and temperatures inside the cockpit could drop to -40 degrees Celsius. Thus, the "B-3" was a jacket that supported the lives of pilots in that era.

It uses highly insulating sheepskin (combination tanned) on the inside. To ensure warmth and improve mobility, the length of the mouton's fur is varied for each part.

Also, since the reverse side (suede side) faces outward, the surface is coated with polyacrylate lacquer to prevent moisture and oil from penetrating.

The brown leather used for the pockets, reinforced shoulder areas, and seam tape is aniline-finished horsehide.

North American vegetable-tanned cowhide is used for the adjustment belt.

Next, we introduce the "B-6", the successor to the "B-3".

Like the "B-3", it uses combination-tanned sheep mouton.

The "B-3" used very long-haired mouton, generously cut into large pieces. However, the pieces were too large, which limited body movement. There were reports of frostbite occurring due to perspiration caused by the long fur and restricted movement, leading to sweat freezing at -40°C in the air.

As a solution, the successor "B-6" adopted mouton with slightly shorter fur. Furthermore, the mouton was cut into smaller pieces to create a form that followed the body's lines without waste, improving mobility.

Due to its perfection, the "B-6" received strong support from pilots, but due to reasons such as the depletion of mouton resources, it was replaced by cotton "B-10" with alpaca lining. Later, nylon flight jackets, which you all know, appeared.

Due to such circumstances, the "B-3" and "B-6" were manufactured for only a short period, but they continue to be loved as the pinnacle of flight jackets.
