COLIMBO AAF Heavy Loader Mouton JKT Seal Brown [ZZ-0136]

This is the jacket commonly known as the "B-3".

It is made with a very luxurious amount of mouton (fur) and is sometimes called the "King of Flight Jackets."

During World War II, when there was no pressurization system to maintain cabin air pressure and keep temperatures comfortable, temperatures inside fighter planes could drop to minus 40 degrees Celsius. The B-3 was the jacket that supported the lives of pilots during those times.

The inside is made of outer leather (combination tanned) with sheep's wool, which has excellent heat retention. In order to ensure protection from the cold and increase mobility, the length of the mouton fur is different for each part.

In addition, the suede side of the back leather is exposed on the outside, so the surface is treated to prevent water and oil from penetrating.It is coated with poly-acrylate lacquer.

The brown leather used for the pockets, shoulder reinforcements, and seam tape is aniline-finished horsehide.

The adjustable belt is made of North American cowhide leather.

Next, we'd like to introduce the "B-3", the successor to the "B-6".

Like the "B-3", it uses combination tanned sheepskin.

The B-3 jacket was made with extra-long mouton fur, cut into large pieces. However, because the pieces were too large, it caused problems with restricting body movement. There were reports of people sweating because the fur was too long and the movement was restricted, and the sweat froze in the air at temperatures of -40°C, causing frostbite.

So, as a solution, the successor model "B-6" adopted a mouton with a shorter and more uniform pile. Furthermore, the mouton was cut into smaller parts to create a leaner form that followed the lines of the body and improved mobility.

Due to its perfection, the B-6 was well-received by pilots, but due to the depletion of mouton resources, it was replaced by the B-10, which was made of cotton with an alpaca lining, and later, the nylon flight jacket that we all know appeared.

Due to these circumstances, the "B-3" and "B-6" were only produced for a short period of time, but they are still loved today as the pinnacle of flight jackets.
